I Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Kanchana Jayaratne was born on 4th May to my parents, Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne of Mellawagedera and Wariapperuma Appuhamilage Malin Nona Jayaratne in the Gampaha District. Having had my early education in Minu Mellawagedera Maha Vidyalaya from Grade 1-5, I joined Joseph Vaz College in Wennapuwa and pursued my secondary Education there from Grade 6 to G.C.E. Advanced Level. During my secondary education I showed a marked talent in sports and drama and excelled in Volley Ball, Athletics, Cricket, Foot Ball and Base Ball and represented my school both at school level and at National Level, especially in Volley Ball. My inherent talent in drama and singing brought me many accolades during my school career which was not second to my achievements in the field of sports. I was also a member of the first school Western Band of Joseph Vaz College.

Having left school in 1990 and joined the Sri Lanka Police Department in 1992 as a Sub Inspector of Police I rose to the position of OIC Kiriella Police Station. I married Pavithra Wanniarachchi in 1998 and has been her Private Secretary ever since, serving in this capacity in all the Ministries she served. Destiny had other ideas lined up for me and this was brought to the forefront in 2008 when I contested the Eheliyagoda seat  in the Ratnapura District and  was elected as the Member of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council by securing the highest number of votes and being placed first in the list of the Ratnapura District and subsequently rose to the present position as the Chairman of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council by again securing the highest number of votes in the Provincial Council Elections held in 2012 and securing the first place in the Ratnapura District.

However my love of sports and special love for Volley Ball continued throughout this period and as a result, was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Volley Ball Federation of Sri Lanka in 2008 for the 5th term in succession, which position is currently held by me, along with the post of Chairman of Tournament & Media Committee for 2008 to date. The service and contribution I have made for the game of Volley Ball has been commended by many people, bringing me many accolades both for myself and the Sri Lanka Volley Ball Federation due to the hard work and dedication I put into it. I am happy to state that I am blessed with the inherent quality of helping all human beings, irrespective of caste, creed or their position in society. This rare quality of mine has manifested in myself to such an extent that I derive great satisfaction and happiness by helping others, even going beyond my call of duty at times. Among other talents and qualities I have, I am happy to say that I am blessed with a great singing voice and is in great demand to render popular songs at various weddings, functions, get togethers and Public gatherings.

I enjoy the company of good friends and also do not hesitate to face any challenge that comes my way, which is a quality that I have acquired by birth. Being highly disciplined and methodical in whatever I do and is blessed with very high & refined qualities and a very good memory. It brings me great joy to win the hearts and minds of the people around me and rarely do I hurt anybody’s feelings. The leadership qualities and organizational abilities, coupled with a pleasant disposition has shown in no uncertain terms that I am known as a person who likes to lead a pleasant life and is always well groomed. My love to live a life of aesthetic beauty has manifested in my ability to always dress well, and conduct myself in a very refined, exemplary and gentlemanly manner in society. My desire to help the needy, especially in helping needy students in their education in many instances is a quality that is both unique and unsurpassed. Being a sports enthusiast, especially in the game of Volley Ball I have helped in numerous ways to help athletes and players to enhance their skills in whatever sport they do and has contributed many sports items for various sports disciplines for this purpose.

Being born into a respectable Sinhala Buddhist family I have had the opportunity to help many Buddhist causes and donate amounts running into Millions of Rupees, despite my very heavy political schedules and I live an exemplary family life with my wife Pavithra and two daughters Senuri and Ninu and devoting time for them too. I have one younger sister, Lukshmi Kumari Jayaratne.
